Recovering from overeating seems like the biggest undertaking of my life. It seems like something I will never figure out. I heard a lady speak about her life before, during and after getting to OA and she gave me hope. She talked about the compulsion to overeat fading away as she beganned to work the program. It all sounds wonderful. I have noticed that the people that truly work the program have this look of optimism on their face at all times. They just have the look of being at a better place in their life now, than ever before.
I am so hopeful that my time will be coming soon. I still struggle with managing my life so that I can find the necessary time needed to work this program. I am going to have to give up something to begin the steps. It will probably take me a month to answer the first question. It pertains to all the things you have done in your life to lose weight and for me that has been many.

Congratulations to you for having the willingness to seek recovery. It is true that it is hard to find the time initially, but you will get to a point where it is important enough for you to put your recovery at the top of the list. My first sponsee call in the morning is at 5:45 a.m. because I believe so strongly in the importance of taking care of ourselves. A suggestion for your first question is to look at it one day at a time. Commit to working on it for 15-30 minutes. You’ll be amazed how much comes out in 15 minutes. I’ve been abstinent for a while now (since Jan. 2005) and it does take time. But it is also worth every second.

Thanks for the encouragement. I hope it is okay to email you from time to time I am kind of struggling right now. I went out and bought a journal and plan on doing some writing tonight. Thanks again for the experience, strength and hope.

Of course you can, any time. For me, writing is one of the best tools of the program. Sometimes things come out in writing that don’t come out in any other way for me. Then I’m able to talk to my sponsor about them or share them at a group level. Take care.

Thanks. Tomorrow I am going to something called the “All Ohio Day of Sharing.” People are coming from all over the state for a whole day of recovery. I also started writing my first step today. I don’t have much, but I am going to try to write at least 20 minutes a day. Talk to you soon.
